YEAR 10 and 11 students at Droitwich Spa High School took on one another in a musical contest recently with their annual Battle of the Bands.
Three bands ‘Dimension Industry’, ‘Flux’ and ‘The Signatures’, competed from across years 10 and 11, and they were judged by Fred Mallinson, head of music at Hagley RC High School, who also gave constructive feedback to all the bands, before deciding that the winners were ‘The Signatures’.
Also performing onstage were two bands from year nine called ‘Arizona’ and ‘Not Yet’ who had learnt to play their instruments and learn their songs to perform in the past 10 weeks as part of a programme called Musical Futures.
Mrs Anita Lycett, music teacher at the school, said: “It is remarkable that these students have got themselves from not being able to play at all to being good enough to take part in a concert. They should be really proud of what they have achieved.”
