Droitwich service to mark start of First World War

First published in News

THERE will be a special service in Victoria Square this Sunday for Droitwich residents to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the start of World War One.

The service will start at 10.40am with a short service of prayers followed by the laying of a cross, before the names of all the soldiers who died in the conflict are read out.

Participants will then return to the British Legion where they will read out poems written by various schools in Droitwich to mark the centenary.

The name of First World War soldier Private William H Goddard was added to the town’s memorial last month, following an appeal from his family, and his name will be read alongside those of his fellow soldiers.
