SALWARPE Road in Droitwich had to be closed while the emergency services responded to a serious collision involving a young boy.

West Mercia Police were called to the incident, which involved the pedestrian and a silver Corsa, at approximately 9.20am.

The air ambulance landed in the King George Playing Fields to treat the pedestrian, a nine-year-old boy. His parents were with him.

The driver of the car, an 84-year-old woman from Droitwich, was not injured in the incident.

The road was closed between Kidderminster Road and Ombersley Way but later re-opened.

The boy has been taken to Birmingham Children's Hospital for treatment.

Any witnesses to the collision who have not yet spoken to officers are urged to call West Mercia Police on 101 quoting incident number 199s of July 5.
