PEOPLE moving house to or within Droitwich Spa will find it easier and quicker to register to vote, after the introduction of a new website by Wychavon District Council which lets people register online.

New residents will be able to register to vote using the new online electoral registration service via their PCs, smartphones, or tablets in only a few minutes.

Until now, one person was named head of the household and it was their responsibility to register anyone else living at the address, but now people will be able to register as individuals, as long as they provide their name, address, date of birth and national insurance number.

Elaine Dicks, electoral services manager at Wychavon District Council, said: “Online electoral registration is a huge improvement. Previously a paper form had to be provided the electoral registration officer in order to register but people deserve more choice about how they register to vote and online registration gives them a quick, easy and convenient option.”

The new website gov.uk/register-to-vote is part of changes intended to reduce the chances of electoral fraud.
