THERE was a first recently for the Rotary Club of Droitwich Spa, as new president Helen Karakashian was formally signed in as president of the club.

Mrs Karakashian is the first female president in the club’s 75 year history, and she has plenty of plans for the club’s activities over the coming year.

She said: “We have an exciting programme full of a wide range of social activities and fundraising events, including ‘yarn bombing’ in the town centre.

“The Rotary Club is supporting young carers again this year, and also Brain Tumour Research and MS Society backed research into myelin repair, which may prove valuable in helping those with dementia too.

“As a Rotary Club we feel it is important to support those less fortunate than ourselves overseas as well as close to home, and we will be helping to fund an education based charity in Swaziland, Sand Dams and Polio Plus, the latter project being very close to eradicating polio.”

The Rotary Club meets at lunch time on Tuesdays at St Andrew’s Town Hotel. For more information contact secretary Sandy Laird on 01905 773620 or write to ahlaird@talktalk.cet.
