STAFF from the Droitwich offices of floorcare company Vax, took part in Worcester’s annual ‘Race the Dragon’ charity dragon boat race recently, to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Trust.

The racers managed to raise £185 for the charity, which was chosen by customer service advisor Marie Tyrell, who works at the Droitwich offices, and is currently living with cancer.

20 Vax employees from various department, teamed up to take on the 27 other teams involved in the race along the River Severn in Worcester. The team the ‘Steaming Vaxons’ was captained by finance ledge assistant Simon Halls, and wore their team uniform of World Cup themed ‘retro footballer’ fancy dress outfits, complete with tight shorts, curly perm wigs and moustaches.

The Steaming Vaxons took part in four races altogether, speeding up throughout the day, and narrowly missing out on a place in the final, placing 21st overall.

Mr Halls said: “It was a great effort by everyone from Vax who took part, especially as we’d never paddled together as a team before the day. We all had a fantastic time and we’re really proud we’ve helped raise money for such a great cause in the process. We’ll definitely be back next year to break into the top 20.”
