A DROITWICH couple who regularly open their garden as part of the National Open Gardens Scheme, are holding a special open day to raise money in memory of their son.

John and Susan Fletcher have organised the open garden day at their house on Showell Road to raise money for St Richard’s Hospice, after their 34-year-old son Paul died there in December of 2010.

Since his death the two have already managed to raise £13,000 for the hospice with a number of garden openings, and other events organised by Mrs Fletcher, and they’re hoping to add to that on Sunday, June 29, when members of the public will be able to visit the garden for a £3 entry fee.

Mr Fletcher said: “The hospice staff were kind, considerate, professional, understanding and marvellous – as they are to all who enter their doors.”

Visitors to Hiraeth will be able to take a look at the couple’s collection of unusual plants, as well as a traditional cottage garden area, hostas, ferns, a 300 year old Olive tree, arches, a pool, a waterfall, a 200 year old stile, and a number of oak sculptures, and metal animals.

The open garden event will be at ‘Hiraeth’, 30 Showell Road, Droitwich, WR9 8UY from 2-6pm on Sunday, June 29, with entry at £3 or free for children. Refreshments and plants will also be for sale at an extra cost.
