YOUNGSTERS had the chance to discover more about the town’s history recently, with a workshop at Droitwich Library organised by the Our Droitwich project.
The free workshop gave children the opportunity to look at photos and giant maps, and listen to recordings dating back to the 1950s, tracking the town’s growth from a population of 6,000 to its current 23,000 people.
The children, who were all aged from seven to 11, got a flavour of the challenges that would have been faced by town planners in the 50s expecting an influx of 15,000 people, looking at the different buildings to see how their uses were changed over the years.
They also go the chance to learn about map reading, and interpreting primary historical sources.
