LADIES from the Gaudet Luce Golf Club near Droitwich raised £1,000 for Macmillan Cancer Care recently with a three ball alliance competition.

More than 100 golfers from 21 clubs across the Midlands took part in the event, with teams of three players, playing three simultaneous rounds of golf against one another, as they went around the course.

Joan Woodhams, 2014 ladies section captain, said: “This has got us off to a great start. The result was fantastic. Thanks are due to the club management for their help and support in freely providing the course, which was in excellent condition on the day as well as to all those who travelled from around the area to compete.”

A team comprising of Pauline Terry and Claire Maiden of Ombersley Golf Club, along with Libby Nicholl of Droitwich Golf Club won the event, with runners up from the home club, and the club already has planned for another fundraiser, the Macmillan Longest Day Challenge.

Mrs Woodhams added: “Two teams, each of four golfers from the club, will be aiming to play four full rounds of golf on our course on August 1 starting at dawn. We hope they will be able to secure a large amount of sponsorship for their efforts, so that we can add much more to our charity fund.”
