COUNCILLOR Lynne Duffy has been elected as the new chairman of Wychavon District Council, taking over from Councillor Gerry O’Donnell in the position.

Councillor Duffy was elected unopposed. She said: “It is a great privilege to represent Wychavon District Council as chairman. My theme for the year is community development, and I look forward to working with the residents and organisations in the district and the Wychavon team, and attending as many community events as possible during the year. If anyone has an event or project that they would like me to support, please get in touch.”

Stepping down from the position, Councillor O’Donnell added: “The year has not been without its challenges, but I was particularly delighted to see the launch of the publication ‘Grow in Wychavon’, which told the stories of 52 business successes in the district. This book once again demonstrates the entrepreneurial spirit that pervades Wychavon’s approach.

“As I went round the district, I could not help but be impressed and inspired by the hundreds of small businesses, many operating from home, which are providing blue chip services and products. Likewise in the care industry, where the elderly are looked after so well by people with a true vocation. Our schools are wonderful, and I have been particularly impressed by the performing arts sector within schools. My enjoyment and enthusiasm would not have been possible without the support of officers at Wychavon, and in particular the managing director, Jack Hegarty, and my sincere thanks go to everyone who made my year unforgettable.”

The Chairman, Lynne Duffy, will be accompanied on civic engagements by her husband Phil Duffy. She has chosen the Droitwich Salvation Army and the Norbury Theatre as two of her charities for the year.
