AN unsigned singer-songwriter is aiming to pursue a career in the music industry after becoming an online hit at the first attempt.

Former Worcester Sixth Form College student Abby Inez only released her debut EP, Say What You Think, on Easter Sunday (April 20) but it has already reached the heady heights of number seven on the iTunes singer-songwriter chart.

The 18-year-old of Primsland, Droitwich, is currently on a gap year but after finding herself sitting one place behind Ed Sheeran's Lego House in the chart, she has decided to give her dream career in music a real go.

"It's crazy really because it is just so unexpected. I was really happy when it went to 68 and I thought, 'imagine if it went to top 50', and it just kept going up and up through all the way to the top 10."

She credits her local support and fan base with helping her to have an internet hit, as well as the power of people sharing her work via Facebook and Twitter.

"I'm just hoping to keep the ball rolling and I'm going to start writing again."

Abby has been writing her own songs since the age of 14 and plays both the guitar and piano, with her sound sitting within the country and folk genres.

Crafting her own catchy pop songs, she is heavily influenced by artists such as Taylor Swift, Gabrielle Aplin and the Band Perry.

Abby is now preparing for one of her biggest gigs to date, when she will appear at the LG Arena in Birmingham ahead of Katy Perry's concert on Wednesday, May 14.

She also recently followed her dream by travelling to Nashville in America to meet producers and play gigs.
