Work starts to improve sewerage system for Cutnall Green

First published in News

WORK has begun on improving the sewage treatment system for Cutnall Green with more than half a million pounds being invested in the work.

Severn Trent, and its contractor partner Mott McDonald Bentley will be laying 3 kilometres of new sewer pipes across fields and sections of the A442 Doverdale Lane and Wassage Way, at a cost of £600,000.

Currently sewage is treated on site, but with the new system in place it will be pumped away, with the hope of protecting the environment and helping to prevent pollution to local rivers and streams.

Severn Trent Water’s Gareth Mead, said: “This is great news for the people of Cutnall Green. The sewage treatment works has been serving the community for many years – but it is in need of work. To make sure the quality of water in our streams and rivers get better and better, we need to continually improve and upgrade our sewers and treatment works. Our improvements will now see Cutnall Green becoming a sewage pumping station, with waste water treated at Droitwich, a larger high-tech site nearby.

“During the work traffic lights will be used on Horton Lane and the A442. his will only be for about two weeks in the middle of June, so we can make the area as safe as possible. We’d like to say sorry to local residents who might see more traffic for a short while, but we believe there’ll be many benefits to the local environment in the longer term. We’ve been working closely with the community to mimimise any disruption and the people of Cutnall Green have been very positive about the proposals.”

The work has already begun in the area, and is expected to continue throughout the summer, and be completed before winter this year.
