A CERAMICIST who suffers from the debilitating neurological disease ataxia is to hold an art exhibition in the Chapter House of Worcester Cathedral along with her illustrator daughter.

The work of Lit and Kate Betty Smith of Lulsley is to be featured in A Celebration of Nature, which will run from April 27 until May 8.

The artwork featured in the exhibition is a selection of ceramics by Mrs Smith and mixed media paintings and drawings by Kate Smith.

There will also be a display featuring the work of the Cathedral stonemasons. Jonathan Clift, a local artisan blacksmith, has collaborated with Mrs Smith for many of her pieces in the exhibition, which was initially inspired by the Green Man carvings in the Cathedral and their association with the natural world.

Stonemasons, both past and present, have worked with these themes too.

"The beautiful stonework of the Chapter House will provide a wonderful setting for the artwork," Mrs Smith explained. "The natural world is an inspiration to both of us, with native plants and wildlife featuring strongly in A Celebration of Nature. There are also ceramic Green women created from life-casts of myself and Kate."

An invitation-only private viewing of the exhibition will take place on Saturday, April 26 during which there will be a charity auction run by Worcester antiques expert Philip Serrell to raise funds for Ataxia UK and Worcester Cathedral stonemasons.
