CHILDREN from St Peter’s First School have been decorating plastic bottles to try and spread the message that’s it’s good to recycle.
The school organises an eco week each year to highlight issues around the environment, and this year they decided to focus on plastic waste, with the whole school encouraged to recycle all of their plastic waste at lunchtime, and leave a mark on a tally chart for the day.
Several pupils are also members of an eco council at the school, and they were invited to add some ‘bling’ to a plastic bottle, to highlight the issues for everyone.
‘Blinged’ bottles included a caterpillar, a snowman, a ball game, a friendly pig, a colourful bird and a bottle head which will eventually grow its own cress hair.
Catherine Baldwin, eco-coordinator at St Peter’s, said: “Our school eco council were invited to 'bling a bottle', to remind our children that our plastic waste can be reused. Their end results were amazing and so much fun.”
Each class was also encouraged to sign a pledge to say that they would encourage their families to reduce, re-use and recycle their plastic waste too, to hopefully spread the message around the town.
