MORE than 150 Brownies from across Droitwich came together recently for a big birthday party to celebrate 100 years of the movement.

The Brownies from first, second, third, fifth and sixth Droitwich Brownies, as well as units from first Wychbold Brownies, Ombersley Brownies and Barnes Brownies, met up at the Sacred Heart Church Hall in Droitwich for a giant birthday party.

The troops were given different jobs to do for the party, and got fully into the swing of things, creating a giant Union Jack flag, entertaining one another with keep fit games and songs, and telling the story of how the Brownie movement was started as well as showing off the different uniforms through the ages.

Organiser Clare Wale, said: “They had an excellent time. We had party food and drinks. These units are quite spread out so it’s not very often we all get together. it was a very special occasion.”

Worcestershire Brownies have a lot more celebrating still to come in their centenary year with more parties planned, and mass sleepovers.

Mrs Wale added: “It’s a good year to join the Brownies.”

The Brownies are for any girls aged between seven and 10 years old, for information on the Brownies and on joining any of the Droitwich Brownie units, visit enquiryym.girlguiding.org.uk/.
