DROTIWICH developer McCarthy & Stone is urging people over 70 in the town to set aside some time in their day to help others.

The company has teamed up with Royal Voluntary Service the try and promote the benefits that volunteering can have on people in their later lives.

Gill Sabin, regional sales and marketing director for the firm, which has just built the Horton Mill Court development, said: “At McCarthy & Stone we believe that later life should always be rich, rewarding and full of opportunity, and we know that volunteering can offer just that by providing a more active and gratifying lifestyle for people as they grow older.

“Extensive research undertaken by Royal Voluntary Service in recent years proves just this, revealing that those who volunteer are happier and have a better quality of life. For that reason alone, we felt that it was important that we do our bit to showcase just how easy it is for over 70’s to pledge some time, and in turn improve not only their own wellbeing, but that of others in the local community.”

McCarthy & Stone is encouraging anyone interested to join the five million people over 60 already volunteering in the UK, by giving up as little as 15 minutes a week in areas where they already have an interest, or using volunteer work as an excuse to learn a new skill.

The developer is aiming to raise at least £75,000 over an 18-month period to support the 40,000 volunteers Royal Voluntary Service has across Britain.
