WITH the Sports Relief mile just over a week away, Droitwich runners are being urged to limber up and get involved to help raise money.

The mile is being organised by Wychavon District Council and will be taking place on Sunday, March 23 at Droitwich Spa Leisure Centre.

The event will begin at 10am, and will follow a route along the canal and through surrounding fields and farm land.

Participants are welcome to go at their own speed, sprinting, jogging or just walking one of the courses which vary between a one mile, three mile and six mile route.

Mark Williams, sports development officer at Wychavon District Council, said: “The Sport Relief Mile is all about getting active and having a laugh at the same time. It’s for all ages and something that friends and families can do – even enjoy – together. Hopefully the rain will have stopped come March 23 and there won’t be any need for the snorkels and brollies.

“All the money raised will help to change the lives of people living unimaginably tough lives right here on our doorstep, across the rest of the UK and in some the world’s poorest countries. So don’t forget to rope in your mates, family, boyfriend, girlfriend and colleagues too and get them running for Sport Relief.”

After the event there will also be exciting games and activities on offer for participants and their supporters.

If anyone doesn’t fancy running, walking or even hopping the course, but would like to be involved as a volunteer or if they want to promote a sports club at the event, they should contact Mark Williams on 01386 565229 or write to mark.williams@wychavon.gov.uk.
