DROITWICH mayor Tom Noyes was on hand to officially cut the ribbon for the opening of the new Sainsburys Local supermarket in Droitwich this week.

The new store which has opened on Worcester Road on the site of the old Total petrol station, has created 30 new jobs and is looking to recruit a further 15 staff members.

Councillor Noyes was joined by his lady mayoress Glenise Noyes, and children from nearby Witton Middle School, who have received a donation of Active Kids sports equipment from the supermarket.

The store is planning to support Sport Relief until the end of March, before looking for a more local charity to support for the next 12 months.

Any local groups which would like to be considered, should write to Juliet Shaw, the store manager, at Sainsburys Local, 141-149 Worcester Road, Droitwich WR9 8AR.
