BEST-selling children’s author Robert Rigby is set to visit pupils at Droitwich Spa High School

The writer of the the Goal series of books, numerous episodes of Byker Grove and the Boy Soldier series of novels will be paying a visit to the Briar Mill school on Tuesday, March 4.

The visit, which is part of the school’s celebration of World Book Day, will see Mr Rigby work with a variety of year eight students throughout the day and then with older teenagers and parents in the evening.

He will be reading from his latest and as yet unpublished novel The Eagle Trail, which is released on April 3.

Librarian Heather Evans, who is responsible for the visit, said: "We do try to get authors here to school every year if we can. It is so important for students to realise that people who write books are not remote and mysterious characters, they are normal people just like their mums and dads and there is no reason why they should not aspire to be writers themselves."

Miss Abby Taylor, an English teacher at the school who is helping with the event, added: "This is a great opportunity for the students to learn from someone who is at the top of their craft. Our pupils will benefit greatly from hearing him talk about his work but also by getting hands on help with their writing from someone who makes a living from doing just that."
