A TEMPORARY shop that was set up to help Droitwich residents beat the burglars has been declared a success.

The Love Your Home store was open in St Andrew’s Square shopping centre on January 24 and 25, with shoppers invited to drop in and learn how to protect themselves and their property from crime.

As well as receiving crime prevention advice and freebies, it was a chance to find out more about services such as property marking and the Immobilise website, where people can register their valuable items for free.

The shop was a joint initiative between West Mercia Police, and partner organisations including Worcester Regulatory Services, Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service, Festival Housing, Wychavon Community Safety Partnership, Neighbourhood Watch and Safer Roads Partnership.

Previous Love Your Home shops have opened in Worcester, Pershore and Evesham, but this was the first in Droitwich.

Inspector Janet Heritage, safer neighbourhood team inspector for Wychavon, said: “Love Your Home was very successful in Droitwich, attracting more than 750 shoppers and passers by, who learned how to show their homes some love by improving security and making it harder for burglars to break in.

“The reaction was very positive, and I would like to thank everyone who made the effort to come in, and the management of St Andrew’s for the loan of the shop. We very much hope that similar events will take place again in the future.”
