DROITWICH Spa air cadets still want people to come forward with their memories of the town's lido.

Members of the 2516 Droitwich Squadron are collecting information and memorabilia from the 1940s and 50s to help form a unique audio and visual display that can be shown to lido visitors when the site reopens for a new season in May.

Cadets have been planning the project, which has been funded by Wychavon District Council, for the last few weeks and have already gathering information from old newspapers of the time and from a recent event at Droitwich Library.

The group has already received some donations relating to the 1950s but is keen to hear from anyone with stories, swimwear and photos from when the lido opened in 1935 and the period from 1945 onwards.

Anyone with a story to share about going to the lido as a child is asked to get in touch. Cadets are planning to interview people over the next few weeks.

In addition to any general leisure time stories, members are particularly interested in anyone who met their sweetheart at the lido or remembers being involved in swimming or diving contests. People who went swimming with the Sacred Heart School and anyone that saw the ‘Aquabats’ and diving displays held at the lido during the 1940s are also urged to come forward.

Anyone who is interested in supporting the project can contact Lisa Kimberley at lkimberley@hotmail.com or call 07971 675432.
