A DROITWICH opticians is reminding the community to bring in unwanted pairs of specs in a bid to help improve eyecare in developing countries.

Specsavers in St Andrew's Square is collecting the old glasses on behalf of the charity Vision Aid Overseas (VAO). Collected glasses will be sent to the charity which raises funds by recycling the glasses in an environmentally-friendly way.

"We’ve been collecting old specs for a number of years now," said Emma Singh, store director. "The charity makes such a difference to people who don’t have access to the same standards of eyecare as we do, so we really do want to encourage people to drop in their old pairs to us."

Vision Aid Overseas is an international charity dedicated to fighting poverty by transforming access to eyecare in developing countries. 670 million people - 10 per cent of the world's population - are disadvantaged by poor vision and a lack of glasses.

Specsavers in Droitwich is open seven days a week and offers a new late night opening on Wednesdays until 7pm.
