THE Safer Roads Partnership in West Mercia is reminding all road users to share the road responsibly and look out for each other this new year.

With the new year celebrations almost upon us, tonight will be a very busy one in towns and cities across the force area.

The Safer Roads Partnership is reminding anyone who is out and about as a pedestrian to take care, particularly at night when it is more difficult for other road users to see you.

Pedestrians are encouraged to ensure they are visible to motorists, use pedestrian crossings where possible, avoid walking near fast or unlit roads and take extra care not to stray on to the road if they’ve been drinking.

Vicki Bristow, communications manager at the Safer Roads Partnership, said: “With one of the busiest nights of the year upon us, we’re encouraging all road users to share the road responsibly.

"Sadly, 11 pedestrians have been killed and 80 have been seriously injured in Warwickshire and West Mercia since March 2013. By following a few simple steps, looking out for each other and being aware of other road users, we can all do our bit to keep ourselves and others safe on the roads.”
