THE landlord of a Worcestershire pub which was flooded on Christmas Day last year has said there is no danger of the situation being repeated this year.

Diners at the Rose and Crown in Severn Stoke were forced to abandon their Christmas lunches last year after water levels rose to 18 inches in the bar area and four in the restaurant.

But landlord Pete Fryar said river levels were not as high this year so tomorrow’s lunchtime was likely to be flood-free.

“The river peaked on Thursday afternoon at 4.8m and the bund is 5.2m so it’s ok,” he said.

“Last year when it flooded it was at 5.4m.

“By this point last year the water was already in the village but that was from a whole year of heavy rain so there’s no danger of that being repeated.”

The 16th century Grade II listed building was forced to close following last year’s flooding but was able to re-open thanks to the hard work of residents and Marston’s brewery.
