PUPILS from Droitwich Spa High School welcomed the town’s senior citizens to a Christmas party.

The event, which was organised and hosted by year nine students at the Briar Mill school, saw around 30 elderly residents entertained with music and singing before being served a buffet lunch.

This year’s party, supported by Age UK, marked the 13th anniversary since its launch in 2001. Every year since then, the party has been a highlight of the winter term and informally marks the opening of the Christmas season at the school.

Teacher Elizabeth Whitehouse said: “The event is important in so many ways for both our students and our senior neighbours. There are very few opportunities in which teenagers get a chance to interact with older members of the community beyond their own family, so this is a great way for them to demonstrate that the image that is presented of teenagers is not always a fair one."
