Workers facing job cuts under factory closure plans
3:50pm Friday 1st November 2013 in News
AROUND 30 workers in Droitwich Spa face job cuts under plans to close a town-based factory.
Baxenden Chemicals Ltd, part of global chemical business Chemtura Corporation, is considering the closure of its Union Lane site.
Employees are currently being consulted on the matter following the announcement by the firm that specialises in water-based polyurethane distribution for the automotive and construction markets.
A spokesman for Baxenden Chemicals, which employs approximately 30 people in Droitwich Spa, said: “Chemtura’s global polyurethane business operations must remain competitive in a challenging economic environment.
“To remain competitive, a consultation process has started with the work force on a proposal to cease production at the Droitwich site and consolidate manufacturing operations.
“The cooperation of the work force during this difficult process is greatly valued by Chemtura and the company will be consulting with employees about alternative job opportunities across the Chemtura businesses.”
