Droitwich Young Firefighters Association to hold open evening
8:30am Friday 1st November 2013 in News
DROITWICH Spa’s Young Firefighters Association is holding an open evening in the town.
Droitwich Fire Station, Friar Street, will welcome visitors aged between 13 and 17 on Wednesday, November 6.
Joining the Young Firefighters Association (YFA) gives young people the opportunity to learn new skills, face new challenges and build self-confidence.
Ade Taylor, from the Droitwich branch of the Young Firefighters Association, said: “Those attending the open evening will have chance to find out more about the training and the range of activities young people can get involved in with the YFA. There will also be existing young firefighters on hand at the event to share their experiences.”
He explained that the YFA is a disciplined, uniformed youth organisation open to both males and females aged between 13 and 17-years-old and that those joining will undergo a 13-week training programme before taking part in a passing out parade in front of their families and senior fire officers.
Young firefighters can then start learning more complex fire drills and take part in community events alongside regular firefighters.
He added: “Droitwich Young Firefighters meet each Wednesday evening between 7pm – 9pm at Droitwich Fire Station and although the focus is on training and learning new skills, it’s also a great opportunity to make new friends and have a lot of fun.”
The open evening will be held between 7pm – 8.30pm and anyone interested in joining the group is welcome to attend with their parents or guardians to find out more and complete an application form.
