Droitwich Methodist Church to hold garment exhibition
12:20pm Wednesday 30th October 2013 in News
DROITWICH Methodist Church is set to hold an exhibition of garments with a religious influence.
People are being invited to see The Gethsemane Garments exhibition at the Worcester Road site from November 23 to 30.
The Gethsemane Garments are a series of four unique garments created by Rev Peter Privett using a mixture of machine and hand sewing, dyed, painted and printed materials, including beads, shells, bone and a variety of synthetic and natural fabrics.
They are based on the colours of red, green, purple and white and gold and explore themes of pain, hope, suffering and resurrection in the world.
Peter Privett's original intention was to include quotations on the garments that were taken from contemporary sources, such as newspapers, adverts and other commentaries, but as the works began to emerge, biblical texts came to mind that seem to speak for the present time, so each garment has stitched into it a variety of biblical texts from the old and new testament.
Peter Privett will be giving a talk about the creative processes involved in producing the garments on Saturday, November 23 at 10am. The exhibition will be open to visitors from 10am until 2.30pm and refreshments will also be available.
There will be a chance to follow a prayer trail around the four garments from 4pm to 6pm followed by a worship service at 6.30pm on Sunday, November 24..
The church will also be open from 9.30am to noon on Wednesday, November 27, 1pm to 3.30pm on Friday, November 29 and 10am to noon on Saturday, November 30. Admission is free.
Individual groups can also arrange private bookings by arrangement with Mrs Janet Staley in the church office on 01905 774188 or firstname.lastname@example.org
