Diamond Droitwich couple celebrate 60 years of marriage

A DIAMOND couple from Droitwich are celebrating 60 years of marriage.
June and Eric Buckley, of Shirley Road, celebrated their big day on Thursday, October 24 and are planning to celebrate by enjoying a meal out with their close family.
The couple first met in Somerset, where Mrs Buckley grew up, when Mr Buckley’s role as a senior maintenance engineer with the BBC took him to work there.
They married in Watchet, Somerset, but have been settled in Droitwich for the last 50 years since Mr Buckley transferred to Wychbold with the BBC in 1964.
Mr Buckley, who served in Palestine with the Royal Signals around the time of the Second World War, retired in 1986 and the couple now enjoy spending time with their three children Chrissie, Paul and John, who all live locally in Worcestershire, as well as their five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Mrs Buckley said they were deliberately keeping the celebrations low key as they enjoyed a big celebration with family and friends for her 80th birthday, in June.
She is not sure of the exact secret of a long and happy marriage but said: “I think it is just about mutual understanding and getting on together.”
And Mr Buckley, aged 87, added: “It’s about tolerance and understanding.”
