Spa WI members supporting world record attempt
4:00pm Thursday 17th October 2013 in News
MEMBERS of a town WI has joined forces with BBC Hereford and Worcester to try and break a world record.
Droitwich Sparkles WI is busy making bunting in order to break the Guinness World Record for the longest line of bunting, which currently stands at just under three miles.
The radio station is inviting listeners to help make three and half miles of bunting, almost 23,000 flags in all.
The club president Fiona Lloyd says the group is very enthusiastic about the project, “Our members have come along with material, scissors and a sewing machine. We are going to be putting our name Sparkles on some of the flags, because we are in Droitwich Spa, so we’ll have our sparkling name on the bunting.”
The club also had a visit from Pudsey bear for its first session at the Old Library in Ombersley Street.
Record breaking organizer Mandi Harris said: “I am always amazed how people come forward for our world record attempts, this will be the fourth one we have set.
“What we have to remember is it all goes to raise money for Children In Need, and we need to get everything in place before Children In Need Day on November 15 so that we can be record breakers.”
The campaign has a Facebook page “Bunting for Pudsey”, and anyone wanting details can contact Mandi at firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling 07714 956757 or 01905 748485.
