Preparations for Salt Fest gather pace
8:00am Tuesday 3rd September 2013 in News
PREPARATIONS are well underway for a popular annual festival being held in Droitwich this month.
Salt Fest, celebrating the Spa's heritage, is being held over two days on the weekend of September 14 and 15.
Since the event was first held in 2006 the event has grown bigger every year, becoming a major showcase for the town, its businesses and community.
Favourite attractions, including the Roman re-enactors, canal boat trips, and street markets and stalls, will be returning at this year’s festival.
The Droitwich Arts Network is fully supporting the event and has organised a number of attractions.
Among them are an arts and crafts exhibition at St Andrews Church, including a children’s art competition.
A Salt Play, on the steps of the church garden, is being held on Saturday at 11.15am, then again at 2.14pm.
There is a book launch at the Parks Cafe from 7pm on the Saturday, which will feature guest poets.
Musical entertainment has been arranged and will be held at Saltborrow Market, St Andrews Square Shopping Centre and Vines Park, throughout the weekend.
The Droitwich Canal fun run and walk returns following last year’s successful launch.
The nine mile run takes place on the Sunday, and money raised is being donated to the Murrays Muscles charity.
Participants can enter on the day, or ahead of the event by visiting organisers Droitwich Athletics Club’s website; droitwichac.co.uk.
The dog show, which is being organised by town vets MacArthur, Barstow and Gibbs, is back and will feature a variety of classes including dog with the waggiest tail and fancy dress.
Trophies will be handed out to the best dogs in the show, with all money going to Danemere Animal Rescue.
Members of the Save Our Brine Baths campaign will also be attending to launch their fund-raising drive to reopen the town’s historic brine baths.
The festival is free, although there will be charge for some attractions.
