Droitwich parks get green flag awards

TWO of Droitwich Spa’s parks have been commended for their cleanliness and excellent facilities.
Vines Park has been given Green Flag status for the first time and now joins the town’s Lido Park, which also includes St Peter’s Fields, in getting an award.
The two parks have been joined by Abbey Park in Pershore, Abbey Park in Evesham and Workman/Waterside Gardens in Evesham to take Wychavon’s total to five.
The Green Flag awards are run by Keep Britain Tidy and have seen a record-breaking number of award-winning parks and green spaces highlighted for 2013.
Councillor Ron Davis, who is responsible for contracted services, environment and health, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to receive these Green Flag Awards in so many of our parks. We work hard, with our contractor, to ensure we offer not only great facilities but that these are kept clean, tidy and give everyone something to be proud of.
“My congratulations to the parks team members for their continued devotion to maintaining the parks’ very high standards for the benefit of all who use them.”
The national award recognises and rewards the best parks and green spaces across the country. A Green Flag flying overhead is a sign to visitors that the space boasts the highest possible standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent facilities.
Lynn Stevens, parks officer at Wychavon District Council, added: “We’re thrilled to add Vines Park to those getting the Green Flag award. This is the first time we’ve entered Vines Park and we’re so pleased it has been successful in gaining this well valued award.”
