WORCESTERSHIRE Wildlife Trust has been commended for its conservation work at its base near Droitwich Spa.

The organisation received a highly commended status by the national RSPB Telegraph Nature of Farming Awards.

The conservation charity was chosen for the work it does in providing habitat and food resources for wildlife at Lower Smite Farm, Smite Lane, Hindlip, and for sharing this work with farmers, landowners and communities. Lower Smite Farm is one of three farms the charity manages across the county.

Caroline Corsie, agriculture and grasslands officer for the trust, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to be highly commended in these prestigious and important awards.

“Farmland covers 75 per cent of the UK; many wildlife species depend on the habitat and food that this land can offer so it’s vitally important that we manage it with wildlife in mind. These annual awards are a fantastic way for wildlife-friendly farmers to demonstrate what we do and how we can make a difference – both to wildlife and our businesses.

“At Lower Smite Farm not only are we growing different crops to diversify our interests but we’re also working closely with other farmers to help make the most of each other’s needs and strengths.”
