THE winner of the 2013 Worcestershire Teen Book Awards has been announced.

Nearly 900 pupils across the county voted for their favourite teen title published in 2012 for the contest organised by Worcestershire County Council’s school’s library service.

The shortlisted titles included Soldier Dog by Sam Angus, Dead Time by Anne Cassidy, The Haunting of Tabitha Grey by Vanessa Curtis, Socks are Not Enough by Mark Lowery, April Henry’s Girl, Stolen and eventual winner, Susanne Winnacker’s The Other Life.

The winning title was announced to a packed council chamber at County Hall, Worcester on Tuesday, April 23, during a quiz and celebration event marking World Book Night.

At the event students championed their own favourite titles from the shortlist, Young Poet Laureate Holly Perrett read from her poems, and author Joe Craig spoke to the eager audience about his own writing.

Heather Evans, librarian at Droitwich Spa High School, said: "It was the best WTBA ceremony we've held to date."
