A DETERMINED woman is set to take on a marathon challenge in memory of toddler who lost his brave battle with leukaemia.
Droitwich resident Katherine Holmes will run the London Marathon for the second time on Sunday, April 21 in memory of Charlie Harris-Beard.
She will be raising money for Anthony Nolan, a pioneering charity that helps cure blood cancer by matching patients with bone marrow donors.
The 28-year-old is running for the charity after seeing first-hand the great work it does to support people affected by blood cancer.
She said: “Recently my best friend’s nephew, Charlie Harris-Beard, a local two-year-old boy from Kidderminster, was tragically taken away by an acute form of leukaemia and I wanted to do my little bit to continue his legacy by raising money for such a great cause.”
Commenting on the challenge ahead, she added: “Training has been tough, especially when you get to the really long runs of 16-20 miles, and the weather hasn’t helped, but I think I’m nearly ready to take on the 2013 marathon.”
In advance of the big day, she will be holding a fundraising evening at Park’s Café in Droitwich Spa on Friday, April 12 from 7 – 9pm.
Tickets are £5 in advance, with the first 20 people arriving on the night receiving a goody bag. Events on the night include mini-manicures, a raffle, second-hand book sale and a hand-made jewellery sale.
