Vital repairs needed at community hall
MUCH-needed repairs could be carried out at Droitwich Spa Community Hall.
The key facility, based in Heritage Way, is used by a host of clubs, societies and community groups every day.
Droitwich Spa Town Council, which owns the site, is now set to apply for grant support to help refurbish the Victorian building that dates from 1896.
Councillor Alex Sinton, chairman of the council’s community and amenities committee, said: “This building is in urgent need of repairs to the exterior brickwork. It definitely requires insulation and some internal improvements to bring it to present day standards.
“A scheme has been drawn up and we are hoping to be able to complete these works during the summer months to give minimum disruption all round.
“Residents will be aware that for the fourth year running the town council has not increased its precept, so to be able to do these necessary repairs we need to apply for grants that can only be used for community projects.”
People are now being encouraged to sign a petition in favour of bringing the building up to date. It can be found in the Heritage & Tourist Information Centre in Victoria Square and in the Community Hall.
Anyone who would like to comment on the scheme can email Pam Craney, town clerk, at pam.craney@droitwichspa.gov.uk
