A DROITWICH Spa community project has launched a scheme to get people to grow their own food.

Lido Forest Garden, a project that is creating a food forest in Lido Park, is holding its first seed swap event on Sunday, March 3.

The event will take place at the Old Cock Inn, Friar Street, from 6 - 8pm and will give visitors the chance to swap old or unwanted seeds in exchange for some unusual seed potatoes.

Keeley Thomas, one of the project’s volunteers, said: “Throughout the year we have plants to grow from seed, cuttings and tubers. We rely on volunteers to find a bit of space at home, in school or at work to do this. Our Seed Share Scheme is a great way to get involved.

“We give you seed to grow at home, often unusual or heritage varieties, with full instructions and support. You keep some of the seedlings yourself to grow on at home and then give some back to grow in the community forest garden.

“We even have some free workshops planned for anyone who has never grown anything before. We’ve got some really unusual and exotic crops available, such as amaranth, oca and electric daisies, as well as some more familiar ones, as well. It’s a great way to try something new at the same time as supporting a local project.”

The group also want to know what people want to do about local food, from allotments to retail. For more information contact Keeley on 01905 774277 or keeley@farmgarden.org.uk or got to Facebook/lidoforestgarden.
