YOUNG bookworms from across Worcestershire have picked their favourite reads for a special award.

Pupils from schools in Redditch and Droitwich took part in sessions where they thumbed through a selection of titles to choose their shortlist for the Worcestershire Teen Book Award.

The nominees for the accolade are: Soldier Dog, by Sam Angus; Dead Time, by Anne Cassidy; The Haunting of Tabitha Grey, by Vanessa Curtis; Girl, Stolen, by April Henry; Socks Are Not Enough, by Mark Lowery; and The Other Life, by Suzanne Winnacker.

These will now be read over the spring term to decide which will be the winner of the county’s teen book award, with the result being announced at a quiz and celebration event in the council chamber at County Hall on World Book Night in April.

Worcestershire County Council schools library service manager Dawn Woods said: “Every year the Worcestershire Teen Book Award is becoming more popular as schools now know what to expect and enjoy being part of the build-up.

“It’s a great opportunity for young people to expand their range of reading genres and develop their critical thinking skills.”
