Firefighters from Droitwich help tackle guest house blaze
11:40am Thursday 3rd January 2013 in News
FIREFIGHTERS from Droitwich’s station helped extinguish a blaze at a Worcester guest house.
Crews from Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (HWFRS) were called to a fire at City Guest House in Barbourne Road, Worcester, just before 11.30pm last night.
Three fire engines from Worcester and one from Droitwich attended, and a fire in a first floor bedroom was extinguished with six firefighters in breathing apparatus, three hose reels and one covering jet used.
Station commander Mark Strutt said: “Thanks to the swift actions of the first crews at the scene, fire damage was confined to the bedroom where the fire started.
“However there was heavy smoke logging throughout the guest house and the adjoining guest houses either side of the property, and all three were evacuated during the incident.”
He confirmed that the British Red Cross Fire and Emergency Support Service attended and that several residents were rehoused.
Police and fire officers are investigating the cause of the fire.
