A CHARITY dance night has raised thousands of pounds to support military patients at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

More than 200 people attended a fundraising line dance at Rubery Social Club.

The event, organised by friends Linda Grundy, from Droitwich Spa, Jayne Morris, from Rubery and Northfield resident Elaine Eley, raised £2,010 for Fisher House, a facility for military patients and their families to spend time together in a non-clinical environment.

The evening, on Friday, November 9, also celebrated the work of the military with guests wearing red, white and blue.

Jayne Morris, whose son Matthew is a Royal Engineer, said: “Some of Matthew’s friends have been treated at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham so I know about the wonderful staff and the excellent care the patients receive. “We were keen to support Fisher House because we feel it’s important for families to be close to their loved ones at a stressful time. Home comforts in a purpose-built property would make a huge difference and we are thrilled that our fundraising can help families in this way.”

Fellow organiser Elaine Eley, who runs Dancin2Nite and was the evening’s DJ, added: “We were thrilled to see so many people dancing together for such a great cause. We would say a big thank you to the Rubery Social Club team for their support and to everyone who attended the event and made it the huge success it was.”
