A NEGLECTED dog that lost all its hair due to an untreated skin condition needs help to get better.

The three-year-old Shar Pei bitch, named Lily the Pink because of her hairless appearance, is currently being cared for by RSPCA foster-mum Anne Rees in Droitwich.

The poor pooch came into the care of the RSPCA Worcester & Mid-Worcestershire branch in October. She was totally bald and had very sore pink and itchy skin from an infection and possibly mange that was left untreated.

The branch is now appealing for animal lovers in the area to come forward to help fund her on-going veterinary treatment.

Lily has already had four litters of puppies and was also kept in a cupboard for a period of her life. She will need a lot of love and care to return her to good health.

Anne Rees, who is looking after Lily, said: “She is a lovely, affectionate and sweet-natured girl who deserves the best we can give her. When I took her in she would flinch if I went to stroke her as her skin was so red, sore and hot. She scratched herself so much she would make her skin bleed and she smelled really bad.

“It’s early days yet, but she’s responding to the extensive treatment she is undergoing, which amongst other things involves her being bathed every two - three days to soothe her skin."

Anyone interested in helping to fund Lily's treatment should call Anne on 07790212632, Geraldine on 01886-822083 or send a donation to RSPCA Worcester Branch at 12 Sansome Place, Worcester WR1 1UA.
