TALENTED Spa youngsters have been praised for their creative skills during a remembrance-themed poetry competition.

Wychavon District Council’s chairman, Councillor Richard Morris, announced the winners of his competition in the Droitwich area on Wednesday, October 31.

Coun Morris said: “Entries were strong and very touching. I’m pleased that so many of our local school children got involved and took the time to reflect on just what it means to remember those who have fought for us.”

Entries were judged by Councillor Richard Morris, Jeff King, chairman of Royal British Legion’s Evesham branch, and David Folkes, chairman of Royal British Legion’s Broadway branch.

Winners of the nine - 12 year old category were Ella Gardener and Alex Scott at Dodderhill School.

Winners of the 13 - 16 year old category were Tom Hughes and Luke Harrison at Droitwich Spa High School.

The winners will get to read out their poems at the Remembrance Day service on Sunday, November 11.

Net Nevey, secretary for the Droitwich area poppy appeal, said: “The poems are of a very high standard and capture the mood of remembrance brilliantly.”
