A HISTORY project for Dodderhill has been highlighted for its good work promoting the area’s past.

The Dodderhill Parish Survey Project was named as a winner during an awards evening held by Worcestershire Local History Forum.

The project was give the group prize for promoting the history of Worcestershire in 2012 for its research undertaken to produce the book Dodderhill Through the Ages.

Lyn Blewitt, chairman of the Dodderhill Parish Survey Project, collected the award at a ceremony held at Worcester’s Hive on October 11.

A certificate and a cheque for £50 was presented by chairman of Worcestershire Local History Forum, Cora Weaver.

Lyn Blewitt said she was delighted to receive the award on behalf of all those who had contributed to making the project so successful. This included not only the key eight researchers who had spent many hours creating the website, researching and writing the book, and other specialists in the field, but the army of supporters who had given access to their properties, the field walkers, staff at Wychbold First School, and those who had spent many hours transcribing historic documents.

Cas Morris, from the survey project, said: "The group is delighted to have received recognition for all of its efforts over the last 10 years."

The book was the culmination of more than 10 years of history research and involved a group made up of Kate Allen, Lyn Blewitt, Chris Bowers, Cas Morris, Helen Peberdy, Cheryl Stewart, Jenny Townsend and Derek Hurst, the group’s archaeological advisor. Together with other specialists, which included building historian Stephen Price and a group of transcribers, the book was finally completed.

It is priced at £5 per copy and can be bought from Grace Cards in Droitwich, the town’s Tourist Information Office in Victoria Square, or the Jinney Ring Craft Centre in Hanbury.
