A DROITWICH man was given a community order after committing sex offences against two women.

George Simpson, aged 53, of Grosvenor Close, pleaded guilty to three charges of sexual assault on a female and one charge of harassment without violence when he appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court.

Simpson previously pleaded guilty and was convicted at an earlier hearing on October 5, which was adjourned for a pre-sentence report.

Kerry Lovegrove, prosecuting, said Simpson had agreed to do some gardening work for his first victim on July 13, a 32-year-old woman.

“He arrived at 8.20 that morning and began cutting the grass,” she said.

“She was cleaning children’s toys away when he began commenting about her breasts and how lovely they were. He wanted to see her tattoo which was partially exposed on her chest and kept commenting he was a boob man.

“He made further comments to her about her breasts and how he wanted to see them.

“He pulled up her top and exposed the tattoo on her chest.”

The woman told Simpson “no” and to “get off” but he continued to touch her, pulling at her bra and “rubbing her tattoo” and his behaviour made her “feel very uncomfortable,” the court was told.

His behaviour continued throughout the day and he became aroused after she hugged him which made her feel “incredibly uncomfortable.”

Simpson also carried out some gardening work at his second victim’s parents’ property and neighbouring properties, the court heard.

Between May 1 and August 15, he began a course of harassment against a 38-year-old woman.

After her first encounter with him at her parents’ house, where he banged on the window when she was asking her mum if she could take a shower, he asked for her phone number and where she lived.

Around August 15, Simpson grabbed the woman’s left hand and kissed it, leaving her feeling “very upset and distressed” because she “didn’t know what he was capable of.”

In his defence, Paul Stanley said up until these incidents Simpson had previously been a man of good character and had made arrangements to see a psychiatrist.

“He’s well and truly overstepped the mark here, he recognised that,” he said.

“The pre-sentence report talks about a man who said if that was his 19-year-old daughter then as a father clearly that’s not acceptable.

“He may think that what he did was acceptable to society a number of years ago. He said it’s not anymore.”

Magistrate Ray Needham imposed a three-year community order for each charge, a restraining order for five years protecting both women and ordered him to pay £100 compensation to each injured party and £400 costs.

He also imposed a sex offences prevention order for five years and put him on the sex offenders’ register for five years.
