HAPPY RETIREMENT: Former mayor and councillor Roy Hadland and his wife Dawn, who are retiring.

A FORMER town mayor has retired from his well known business.

Roy Hadland and his wife Dawn are closing their company at North Street industrial estate after 36 years.

Roy, who was mayor of Droitwich Spa 15 years ago and was a town councillor for eight years, started the Roy Hadland Car Company when he was made redundant from Raven Garage in 1972. He left on a Friday and was working on his first car, an Austin A60, by Monday morning.

“We have really enjoyed the 36 years in business. We have had wonderful customers. It’s nice to feel appreciated."

The garage is now offering 50 per cent discounts on stocked items throughout May.

"We have really enjoyed the 36 years in business. We have had wonderful customers. It's nice to feel appreciated," said Roy.

Dawn will now spend her spare time fundraising for Droitwich Spa Baptist Church.
