Biography

MP Since - 1992 Majority - 13,327 Born - 18/02/1955, Married 1 son, 1 daughter.

Education - Windsor Grammar School, Corpus Christi College, Cambridge.

Previous Occupation - Research Assistant to Peter Walker MP (1977-80), Head of Rt. Hon. Edward Heath's Private Office (1980-82). Company Secretary of Luff & Sons Ltd. Managing Director of Good Relations Public Affairs Ltd (1982-87). Special Advisor to Lord Young at the Department of Trade & Industry (1987-89). Consultant to Lowe Bell Communications (1989-90). Rejoined Good Relations Public Affairs as Assistant Managing Director (1990-92).

Personal Overview - Originally from the left of the Conservative Party with links to Edward Heath. He has business experience and has spent most of his parliamentary career on the back benches, where he advanced to become a Select Committee Chairman (until leaving that post in 2000). He then moved into the Opposition Whips Office until the 2005 General Election. Became Chairman of the high profile Trade & Industry Select Committee in 2005.
