JUNE looks like offering something for everyone at Worcestershire’s premier theatre venue.

Heading into Malvern’s Festival and Forum theatres are several special one-night shows along with top quality plays such as 84 Charing Cross Road and Birdsong, both of which are expected to bring in big audiences to the Festival Theatre.

The majority of the one night specials will all be on stage in the Forum however, on Saturday, June 2, it is the Festival that will host the show, Facing the Music with Patricia Rutledge and Edward Seckerson (2.30pm).

It is still one of the best kept secrets in show business that Patricia Routledge trained not only as an actress but also as a singer and had considerable experience and success in musical theatre, both in this country and in the United States of America.

Her many awards include a Tony for her Broadway performance in the Styne-Harburg musical Darling of the Day and a Laurence Olivier Award for her performance in Leonard Bernstein’s Candide.

Her one woman show Come for the Ride toured the UK in 1988 and in 1992 she played Nettie Fowler in the highly acclaimed production of Carousel at the National Theatre.

In 1998 she was honoured with the Gold Badge of Merit by the Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors.

In this fascinating encounter with the writer and broadcaster Edward Seckerson she recalls this very special part of her career with access to some rare and treasured recordings.

On the same day but in the evening it will be Opera Up Close presenting Eugene Onegin at the Forum (7.30pm).

Later in the month there’s An Audience with Kate Humble when the wildlife presenter is on stage with stories of her travels and from behind the camera. This is at the Forum on Monday, June 11 (7.45pm).

But it it’s music you want then mid-June should provide the answer with Thank You For The Music, the ultimate tribute to Abba and then Big Girls Don’t Cry, a tribute to Frankie Vallie and The Four Seasons on successive nights - Thursday and Friday, June 14 and 15 respectively.

Both shows will be in the Festival Theatre starting at 7.45pm.

Thls smash-hit ABBA tribute show brings all of the group’s number one hits to the stage in a production like no other. The hugely popular show, combines the unmistakable harmonies, colourful costumes, and dazzling performances by an all-star cast that’ll have you thanking ABBA for the music again and again!

Record-breaking movies, smash-hit West End musicals, chart-topping albums and singles – ABBA’s incredible legacy now lives on in concert.

Also the music of Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons goes on stage on Friday, June 15, with this 10th Anniversary Tour production.

The show is now celebrating a decade of Big Girls Don’t Cry featuring The East Coast Boys and provides the opportunity to step back in time, to the era of romance and the opportunity to witness the Seasons sounds authentically recreated by a phenomenal cast and live band.

Other shows coming to Malvern in June include Jemima Parry-Jones, destroying the myths about vultures on June 19, the ultimate explorer Benedict Allen on June 20, a tribute to the songs of Leonard Cohen performed by Stewart D’Arrietta’s six-piece band on June 22, Rhonda Rips It Up! from the Welsh National Opera on June 26 and rounding off the month on June 30 is Hello Again, the story of Neil Diamond.

June 16 is also the day when WANNABE hits the local stage at 7.45pm. This is a spectacular concert created to celebrate the career of the world’s biggest girl band, The Spice Girls.

Meanwhile, mixed in with all of these shows is the return of Count Arthur Strong …. alone, solo and by himself, with no one with him

His return, called Alive and Unplugged (whatever that means?), is his first solo show for some years.

The show business comic colossus - his words, takes us back on a journey through his early career on Saturday, June 16.

Tickets for all the June shows are on sale at the Box Office 01684 892277 and online at malvern-theatres.co.uk.
