THE popular Battle Proms Picnic Concert will return to Ragley Hall, Park and Gardens, following last year's record-breaking event which attracted more than 7,000 people.

The date for the this year's extravaganza, in the grounds of the stately home, near Alcester, will be August 13.

The Battle Prom experience includes "sublime classical music, carefully choreographed cavalry displays, dramatic cannon fire and a stunning firework finale".

The Battle Proms will once again be raising funds for charity partner, Combat Stress: the UK’s leading mental health charity for veterans.

An event spokesman said: "Last summer the incredibly generous audience at Ragley Hall donated nearly £9000 on the night and helped the Battle Proms to raise more than £45,700 over the course of the summer.

"This year, the much loved TV and radio presenter, author and celebrated compère Pam Rhodes will host the concert."

The spokesman added: "The Rockabellas, today’s answer to The Andrews Sisters, will warm up the audience with an upbeat performance of unrivalled vintage vocals and will be joined by their new horn section, The Rockafellas.

"Conducted by Douglas Coombes and performed by the New English Concert Orchestra, the orchestral programme will include classical favourites suited to the grandeur of the historic setting, from Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, which also gets the ‘Battle Proms treatment’ of live cannon fire, to a sing-along finale packed with favourites such as Jerusalem, Land of Hope and Glory and Rule Britannia."

Accompanying the orchestra "will be the superb soprano Denise Leigh, who will perform enchanting arias before bringing the finale to life and the crowd to their feet, as the spectacular firework display lights up the summer sky."

Hilary Philpott, House Manager at Ragley Hall, Park and Gardens stated “We are delighted to host yet another popular and nostalgic Battle Proms concert. With our lakeside setting, Ragley Hall boasts a stunning, breath-taking location. The orchestral music, cavalry displays and cannon fire come together to create a truly unique event culminating in an amazing fireworks display”.

Gates open at 4:30pm, entertainment begins from 6.20pm and the event finishes at 10.30pm.
