A FAMILIAR name and face, known to millions for his TV coverage of royal events, will be in Worcestershire next month for a special concert at Malvern Theatres.

Former newsreader Sir Martyn Lewis is to report on a royal pageant of a very different kind when he joins leading choir and period instrument ensemble Armonico Consort on Saturday, February 6 (7.45pm).

Sir Martyn will narrate a concert inspired by the majestic coronation ceremonies of 16th-century Venice. The Doge’s Coronation recreates the sounds of the most outrageously ostentatious period in music history.

Knighted in the 2016 New Year’s Honours for voluntary and charitable work, Sir Martyn was a popular and familiar face on BBC and ITV news until retiring in 1999.

The concert is directed by Christopher Monks with Armonico Consort and Baroque Players together with the English Cornett and Sackbut Ensemble.

The audience will experience the 16-part ‘surround sound’ of Andrea Gabrieli’s Gloria and Giovanni Gabrieli’s Omnes Gentes, alongside other gems of the Italian Renaissance.

The concert is kindly sponsored by David Phillips and Phillips and Becker Accountants Ltd.
