PERFORMING a comedy routine on stage might scare the wits out of most people, but for others it could be the start of a brilliant career.

Thankfully a new series of workshops at Bromsgrove's Artrix gives would-be comedians a chance to have a go at performing.

Theo’s Comedy Skool has become a regular feature on Artrix’ programme in recent years, turning out a host of new comics who have gone on to develop their fledgling careers at venues around the region.

Run by local comedian and poet, Theo Theobald, the five-week programme, which starts on November 3, covers every aspect of the comedy stage, from writing and rehearsal, through to performance.

The workshop includes a live show in front of a real audience on December 5.

Theo said: "It’s a great way to build your skills and confidence in a really supportive atmosphere. Everyone’s in the same boat, so there’s always lots of banter between the students. The live show might feel scary, but making an audience laugh is one of the best feelings in the world."

Former Comedy Skool pupil, Darren Mortiboy said: "Theo’s a great tutor, he helped me with new ideas and showed me how to turn them into a really funny set. I loved every minute of it, not just the workshops, but the show itself.

"I found a side of myself I didn’t know I had."
